Steal a look at Social Security Disability

By Maricon Williams

The world is full of surprises. It’s like a rolling circle that keeps on changing the position of everything. Sometimes it can make you ecstatic, sometimes downtrodden. We never know what will happen next because what we have is only the present. Future is dependent on time, this is the reason why we have to be cautious and prepare for it for we have no idea if we still have the element of time by tomorrow. Death and disability are some of the hindrances in achieving a prosperous lifestyle thus, we have to prepare for it in order not to ruin our goals in life.

Disability, under the Social Security Act, means inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment which can be expected to result in death or has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months. In view of this, if the individual cannot work more than the period stipulated because of disability, then he and his beneficiaries may be entitled to social security benefits. In cases of death, his beneficiaries may be entitled to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability payments.

Social Security is a government social welfare program which is aimed to assist persons who are facing retirement, unemployment, old age, sickness, death, disability. In the United States, it is considered as the biggest insurance program for social security system.

Social Security is the deciding body to determine whether the claimant is truly disabled. It will also decide whether the individual concerned have had work in the past. Aside from that, it will also consider if there are any other work you can do considering your health problems, age, education and work experience.

There are so many disability claimants and to determine whether an individual is truly disable or not is a very sensitive matter. There is no easy way to find it out unless of course if the claimants are experiencing catastrophic disability like total paralysis, terminal cancer and bad heart condition leading to a transplant.

Social security disability lawyers are tasked to familiarize and understand the factors that determine disabled individuals. By virtue of this, they can predict who will make it in the claim and who will lose. Moreover, it is a plus factor to have a skilled social security disability attorney around. He can advice individuals whether to file or not to file a claim. In cases of claim denials, a social security disability lawyer can aggressively make an appeal to yield favorable legal results.
